Creating Your QuickTime VR Panorama

Example: The St. Thomas School Play Area

This is the example QuickTime VR movie I created for this tutorial.

Taking the Pictures

The key to a good QTVR movie is to be patient and get the best set of pictures possible. First, set your camera to a fairly high resolution to make it easier to stitch the pictures together (you get much clearer zooms as well). Now, position yourself as close the to center of the area you are capturing as possible.

Where I stood to take pictures

Now, start turning in a circle and take 20 - 24 pictures as your turn around in a circle. Take care to notice what is in the right 2/3's of the frame in each picture, and include most or all that in the next picture.

Taking Your pictures

Take a least two passes of the circle. Go around once with the camera pointed straight ahead. Then point the camera up a bit and go around again. To make a really great QTVR movie, point the camera down and go around again. This will help the program that creates your panorama image build enough height for a quailty VR experience.
